Constantly getting 'Too Many Devices' error but I only have one TV?

My provider gives me a 1-connection subscription. I only use it on my living room Nvidia Shield. However, randomly when I change channels, it kicks me out with a 'Maximum connections reached' or 'Too many devices' error. I have to wait 5 minutes before it works again. Am I being hacked?
