How to Fix IPTV Freezing During Live TV
Freezing vs Buffering: The Difference
Buffering shows a loading spinner. Freezing shows a still frame for a moment then jumps forward. They have different causes and different fixes.
Cause 1: Network Packet Loss
Freezing without buffering is often caused by packet loss — some data arrives out of order or not at all. Run a ping test: open a command prompt and type ping -n 100 8.8.8.8. If you see "Request timed out" messages, you have packet loss. Contact your ISP.
Cause 2: Insufficient Buffer Size
In TiviMate: Settings → Player → Buffer Size. Increase it from the default (usually 8MB) to 32MB or 64MB. A larger buffer absorbs brief network hiccups without freezing.
Cause 3: Hardware Decoding Issues
If the stream uses HEVC/H.265 and your device's hardware decoder has a bug, you will see periodic freezes. In your player settings, switch from Hardware to Software decoding. Software decoding uses more CPU but avoids decoder bugs.
Cause 4: Thermal Throttling
Cheap Android boxes overheat and throttle the CPU, causing freezes during sustained playback. Check if the device is hot to the touch after 30 minutes of streaming. Add a small fan or ensure the device has ventilation.
Cause 5: Provider Server Issues
If freezing happens on multiple channels simultaneously, the provider's servers are under stress. Contact support and ask for an alternate server. The fix is usually a new stream URL.
